Monte's Tauranga Memorial Service
This Saturday, 21 June, 2007, 9:00 am - (gather between 8:30 & 8:45) at the Romai Marai -
Tahuwhakatiki (Romai) Marae.

This is Monte's primary family marai, just west of Faith Bible College. (We've been advised that it can take 15 to 20 min. from the round about into Welcome Bay).

We are encouraged to have a good representation from YWAM, especially YWAM Auckland Te Ao Marama, since Monte had invested significantly into our little part of the body of Christ.

If accommodation is needed Friday night, please let me know so we can try and make arrangements.

"This is our time. We've never had a time like this before to take the reins and to take our destiny into our own hands."

Rereamoamo Monte Ohia–Gone To Glory
June 12, 2008

Dear YWAM NZ family.

It’s with sadness I inform you that Monte Ohia passed away early this morning from a heart attack.

Monte, with his wife Linda, did their DTS in Kona Hawaii in 1998, and attended a Leadership Training School in Mangere at the start of 2000. After that Monte and Linda took on the leadership of Te Ao Marama in Mangere for several years. Monte and Linda were also the founders of the World Christian Gathering of Indigenous People, of which first took place in Rotorua in 1996.

Monte has been involved in all forms of education throughout his life and has held senior positions in wananga, polytech, university, NZQA, Ministry of Education and been on numerous Boards, Councils and Trusts. His latest job has been Te Pou Matua for the Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology, as well as Maori Party candidate for Te Tai Tonga in the coming election.

We will dearly miss this Kaumatua, father and friend to many of us. His life and service to Jesus and Maori will leave a perpetual echo across the land, one that calls Maori to the love of Jesus Christ, and one that champions Maori to be all we are called to be in our global society.

Our deepest prayers to Linda and whanau,

Peace
